ClubSwan 125 Skorpios pakt line honors voor monohulls in Fastnet Race

In een tijd van 2 dagen 8 uur, 35 minuten en 5 seconden voer Skorpios vanuit Cowes op het Isle of Wight, via de vuurtoren van Fastnet voor de kust van Ierland naar het Franse Cherbourg. Het nieuwe jacht van Dmitry Rybolovlev is daarmee de snelste monohull die meevaart (eerder finishten de eerste multihulls al in Cherbourg). Het jacht heeft een kantelkiel en een C-vormig foil om alle moderne foefjes te gebruiken om snelheid te winnen.

Tijdens het zware weer in de eerste twaalf uur van de Fastnet Race wist Skorpios al voor de andere monohulls te blijven. Nadat het weer daarna kalmer werd en in gunstigere wind bouwde de bemanning de leiding uit.

Miljardair Rybolovlev is nog maar een paar jaar geleden begonnen met zeilen en dit was zijn eerste grote offshore race. Ook dochter Anna Rybolovleva was als bemanningslid aan boord, zij zeilde ook niet eerder zo'n grote offshore race. Dmitry: "We’re very pleased with the boat, the team was great. We want to thank the whole team for such great efforts. We were trying to stay conservative, especially in the high wind at the start, but we’re excited to see what the boat can do in future races. Rounding the Fastnet Rock was kind of magical, it felt like a really special moment."

Schipper van de ClubSwan 125 Skorpios is Fernando Echavarri en hij was vooral opgelucht dat het schip in een geheel door de Fastnet Race is gekomen: "The boat is very strong, we backed off on speed coming out of the Solent, but so was everyone else. We had an idea of what the boat might be able to do, but we didn’t know for sure, so we learned a lot on this race."
