Emirates Team New Zealand laat Te Rehutai te water

Onder het oog van de America's Cup heeft Emirates Team New Zealand het derde jacht voor de verdediging van de Cup klaar. Waar de uitdagers met twee boten aan het werk zijn, is dit dus al het derde schip van Team New Zealand.

De zeilboot werd gezegend door Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei en daarna gedoopt door Lady Margaret Tindall. Er waren ook 900 gasten aanwezig in het niet meer door corona geteisterde Nieuw Zeeland.

Emirates Team New Zealand COO Kevin Shoebridge: "We had our launch date for our race boat in the calendar for probably close to a year. So it really is a huge feat that we are here launching Te Rehutai today considering we lost 5 weeks of build time in the first COVID-19 lock down.

That is an extraordinary effort, which we haven’t ever experienced before as a team. I can’t speak highly enough of the skill and determination that the team at our build facility have shown under exceptionally challenging circumstances for not only them but our suppliers, sponsors and everyone that has contributed."
